Ride and Glide

Our Freeride program is a progressive ski and snowboard education program that focuses on the fastest growing disciplines of the sport.

The Snowboard program is designed to help young riders develop strong fundamental skills, learn to be part of a team, and gain a joy and passion for snowboarding. We’ll help your child perfect advanced skills through on-hill training, dry-land training and video review, including edging, balance, line selection, proper jumping techniques, steep riding techniques, control, fluidity, strength and fitness, injury prevention, and backcountry education and awareness.

Along with these fundamental skills, we’ll also teach your child life skills – both mental and social – including sportsmanship, camaraderie, friendship and team unity, to help them not only succeed, but to win or lose with grace, maturity and class.

We are offering the Snowboard program to intermediate/advanced riders between the ages of 11-18. Our general weekend day of training is 9:00-12:00, lunch, 12:45-3:15. Lunch is available for purchase at the Village Hall dining hall, above the locker room.

2019/2020 snowboard coaches

As a long time member of this community and founder of the Tahoe Junior Freeride Series, I am confident we will bring together an extraordinary coaching staff.  We will begin interviewing candidates for coaching positions in the near future. The coaches will be certified Level 100 IFSA coaches who will complete background screening, CPR/First Aid training, Head’s Up Concussion training  and Safesport certifications prior to coaching any athletes.

QUESTIONS?

Please contact the Ski Team Office or Sean Carey scarey@sbacademy.org if you have questions about the proper placement of your child.

competition

We currently offer 3 platforms for big-mountain competition.

Regionals

We compete with the Tahoe Junior Freeride Series (TJFS). This series caters to all skiers and riders ages 12-18yrs old, with a desire to further their competition experience cost effectively.  These events take place between Sugar Bowl, Squaw/Alpine, Kirkwood, Mt.Rose, and Mammoth. Schedule to be released in the Fall. Annual membership is $95.

Nationals

We also compete on the National level through International Freeskiers and Snowboarders Association (IFSA). This caliber of event is for athletes 12-18 yrs old dedicated to the sport of Freeride who want to compete at a higher level. These events often require travel within the Western U.S. and internationally and is an additional cost per event to cover coaches travel and expenses. Selection of event locations will happen in the Fall when the schedule is released. Annual membership is $105.

Intrasquad

The intrasquad competitions are a great way to introduce athletes into the big-mountain atmosphere with very low pressure and ease.  We typically hold two of these events each season, (one over Christmas break and one at the end of season) to allow participants to compete with their fellow teammates and to feel the effects a competition can ultimately have on an athlete. This is recommended for all team members and is a FREE event.

Park/Halfpipe

There is opportunity to compete with the USASA throughout our region. Many competitions take place at Boreal, Northstar and Mammoth, so athletes with a desire to pursue this can certainly be accomodated.
