Freeride

To provide a free-skiing focused program that challenges kids to ski in varied terrain and conditions, with the intent of training them to be outstanding skiers and to develop a love and respect for the mountains.  The free-riding option to this program will also add terrain park and half-pipe training for those who wish to learn these skills.

Eligibility: All advanced (and better) skiers 11 (by December 31, 2010) to 18 are eligible.  Ten year olds may participate with approval by the head coach.

2010/11 Tuition: $2,750 (includes season pass).

Snow Rangers

The Sugar Bowl Snow Rangers offers youth adventurers the ability to take advantage of all the exciting winter activities available in the amazing Donner Summit winter wilderness. The program will develop the mind, body and spirit of each Snow Ranger as he or she learns how to explore and test their abilities in the snow covered mountains and wilderness in a variety of ways.

Over the course of the winter, the Snow Rangers will advance their alpine skills with the ultimate goal of achieving expert status in powder, trees, crud and rugged terrain. In addition, specific training and instruction will prepare the team for challenging adventure events. Tentative plans include Nordic skiing to Point Mariah at Royal Gorge, back country skiing culminating in an overnight tour to the Granite Chief Wilderness, snow cave camping at Sugar Bowl and alpine skiing far off the groomed boundaries.

As with all Sugar Bowl Ski Team programs, the primary goal is for the Snow Rangers to have fun while challenging themselves physically and mentally side by side with teammates and expert leaders. The program will have one managing coach and experts in the particular curriculum areas will be brought in as necessary.

Eligibility:  11 – 18 years old who have a solid base of alpine skiing experience. No prior experience is required for the other activities.

2010/11 Tuition: $3,050 (includes season pass).
