New! Nordic Development Team
Based at Sugar Bowl Ski Resort and utilizing the Royal Gorge trail system, this program will challenge young adults from age 11 years old who have some experience in Nordic skiing, and are motivated to improve in the sport. The program will be an introduction to competitive Nordic skiing. The kids will have the opportunity to skate and classic ski during these sessions and develop both techniques equally. Skiers will develop technical proficiency through a variety of activities as well as their aerobic endurance. The program will also have a small racing component, with skiers participating in events at Royal Gorge and other local areas.
Head Sugar Bowl Academy Nordic coach, Martin Benes will oversee the program. Martin has coached at the Elite level, NCAA skiing, and junior athletes of varying age and abilities. Training sessions will begin and end at the Village Hall and participants will ski on the Royal Gorge trails.
The program will be based on developing the mind, body and spirit of each participant. As with all Sugar Bowl Ski Team programs, the primary goal is for the Nordic skiers to have fun while challenging them physically and mentally side by side with teammates and expert coaches.
Training days are scheduled for Mondays (3:30pm - 5:00pm), Wednesdays (3:30pm - 5:00pm), and Saturdays from 1 PM-4 PM.
